Abbott came to Ireland in 1946 with its commercial operation. In 1974 Abbott Ireland established two manufacturing facility and since then have added a further six manufacturing facilities employing approximately 4,000 staff, resulting in Abbott Ireland being one of the largest overseas subsidiaries of Abbott Laboratories. Five of Abbott's Manufacturing Divisions are represented across eight sites in Ireland – Diabetes Care in Donegal Town, Diagnostics in Sligo and Longford; Nutritional in Cootehill, Co. Cavan and Ballytivnan, Sligo; Pharmaceuticals in Sligo; Vascular Devices in Clonmel - as well our Sales and Marketing Division in Dublin.

Abbott Ireland is launching its Professional Development Programs in October 2008 for top tier graduate intake in July 2009 across a number of functional areas. Entry onto the programs will require a 2:1 or higher in their studies. Recruitment and selection for these programs will occur in November 2008. The Abbott’s Professional Development Programs (PDP) will give recent graduates an opportunity to apply their skills in different areas and divisions through the Abbott organization.  

The PDP programs are made up of four six-month rotational assignments at Abbott locations in Ireland, Europe and/or the US over two years.By changing assignments throughout the program, successful graduates on the program will develop a sound understanding of the Abbott organization while developing their management, technical and interpersonal skills along the way.

  • Science
  • Supply Chain
  • Environmental Health & Safety

Abbott Ireland’s PDP Programs are structured to ensure that participants develop key functional and leadership competencies through exposure to a board breath of projects and experiences.  A primary objective of the PDP programs is the development of the person in preparation for future key positions within the Abbott organization both in Ireland and internationally.  As such, coaching and mentoring by our business leaders is a fundamental element of the PDP programs.
